Timer-Based Handoffs for Cellular Networks

Description:

In today’s urban micro-cellular environments, fast handoff algorithms are needed to react to changes in path loss characteristics.  These changes typically occur when a mobile unit turns a corner or encounters other obstacles common to urban environments such as tall buildings.  Currently computer simulations are employed to design, dimension and optimize fast handoff parameters however, current simulations do not deal with the corner effects that arise in the micro-cellular environments.
